Acne & Sugar

Sugar tooth
Sugar is already an official bane for our health, of course, that includes acne. I would rate sugar as the number one evil doors for acne. To every sweet tooth out there, with the wish of get ridden of acne, you HAVE to reduce your sugar intake. Let’s see how sugar cause acne.
When you take in large amount of sugar within a short span your time, your blood sugar level(BSL) will rise. BSL is the measure of glucose in your blood, diabetes patients normally have high BSL. High BSL is dangerous to your health, it can cause severe medical complication. No worries, your wonderful body will do something for you to ease the high BSL.

Your pancreas will release a hormones call insulin that will bring glucose in your blood into body cells where it is turned into energy or store for future usage. Thus, whenever you have high BSL, your pancreas will release insulin for the rescue.

BUT, insulin is a hormones! Frequent release of insulin will cause hormonal imbalance, which will cause overactive sebaceous glands to produce excessive sebum which will eventually cause acne. Remember, whenever you eat too much sugar, your body will undergo a change in hormonal level, and this will cause more sebum production and eventually acne

This brings us to the glycemic index. Glycemic index is the measure of ranking(table) for different carbohydrates according to their effect on our blood sugar level(BSL). A food with low glycemic index will cause a small fluctuation in BSL, while a food with high glycemic index will cause a big fluctuation in BSL. Glycemic index table can be seen everywhere, for health conscious souls.
Every single food that you eat, are converted to glucose(sugar) when it is digested. Different kinds of food are converted at a different rate. Food that is rapidly converted into glucose have high glycemic index.

An easy start for you to remember is that water has 0 glycemic index and table sugar has 100 glycemic index. Food with high glycemic index are those above 70,  medium ones are 56 to 69, low ones are considered below 55. While a drop in your sugar intake is good, it is never good enough.

Avoiding food with high glycemic index alone
AGAIN will not spared you from high BSL. Even if you take food with low glycemic index, you can still be having high BSL.
